The Struggles of a Graduate...

Three years of hardcore concentration, tears, and constant hard work to obtain a BA degree and become a qualified journalist, a profession Diana longed for since acknowledging the value of education and realizing her potentials. She put a lot of effort into ensuring she succeeds and eventually graduates with a good grade. Diana is optimistic and has a positive approach towards nearly everything she does, including obtaining a degree and finding a job within her field of study. At the same time, she was still aware that accomplishing such a desire would not be that straightforward. Nonetheless, she never imagined it would be too draining and almost impossible either.

It has become widely known that graduating with a degree does not guarantee a job relevant to the field of study. People like Diana feel the pressure of this even more as she not only has to fight her way through the employment industry, she has to deal with being 'unique' and persuade the hiring companies that she is not to be defined by this. Instead, they should acknowledge her experiences, efforts, and dedication towards work and allow her progress as a journalist.

Since graduating in July 2018, Diana strongly believed she would have a job within a year, but she only managed to find unpaid work. Initially, she did not mind taking on this opportunity as it still meant putting to practise everything she had learned. However, after a while, she had enough of doing things voluntarily and now wants a paid job - having the satisfaction of earning money through her ability.

Then one day, after many attempts and disappointments, a suitable job was finally on the horizon for her. A job that was in some ways relevant to her field of study - something that Diana hugely considers when seeking employment. She believes it is necessary to make use of a university qualification, especially, when she worked extremely hard to earn it. This opportunity was rather unusual though as it was a one-off type of work.

Nevertheless, for Diana, it was a starting point. It gave her the chance to prove herself and test her capabilities - not only for society but for herself.

Undoubtedly, Diana has had to deal with a lot of setbacks and disappointments since graduating. At the same time, it has provided her with a lot of life lessons and the ability to cope with 'the big bad world' - giving her the independence she always craved for and making her stronger. She is no celebrity yet firmly thinks she can still make her mark and make a difference within society - a positive life-changing difference.
