Well, it's been quite a ride these last few weeks at work (and to some extent, at home). Too bad I didn't take photos.
First, one of the common areas at my workplace had to be cordoned off during the search for and repair of a pipe that had burst inside the walls. Seemed like that fiasco went on for weeks.
Then after getting that mess fixed...the temperature outside dropped like a rock.
Then we had TWO pipe bursts on one hallway (they happened on either end). So that day I heard about it but didn't see anything yet. Then the fire alarm set off. Yaaaay, fun!! (False alarm, so we didn't have to stand in the cold. Just had our eardrums torn out while hearing it for five minutes.)
That afternoon while leaving work I could see flooding on the other end of the hall. It was underwater! I could hear water running but couldn't tell where the sound came from. The fire dept. was there. Oh boy.
I came home and my landlords were working on a pipe bust in our building. Thankfully, it did not affect me.
The next day, I worried that there would be no workplace to come to...or that we'd be traveling down the halls by canoe.
My worst fears did not materialize. However, the carpet was dry enough to take a peek around the corner. Part of the ceiling--was gone. I later learned that it had caved in, followed by a RUSH of water (someone told me it was like Niagara Falls). Apparently this cascade of water triggered the fire alarm the other day.
So now the water's mostly dried up, but folks...WINTER HASN'T STARTED YET. It's too early for this in the South. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping for the La Nina effect to kick in starting in January. (Warmer and drier weather. Suits me.)
